Sunara Begum (born in 1984, UK) is a Bengali-Persian performance artist based in London. She works between London, Lagos and Dharamsala. Sunara graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design (UAL, 2007/2008) with a BA and MA in Fine Art and has had several film screenings, exhibitions, performances of her work since. She counts amongst her inspirations diverse range of rituals and symbols from worldwide ancestral traditions as well as her South Asian heritage. Her atmospheric performances are mainly aiming to blur the boundaries of suspended reality. They are social experiments orchestrated as ceremonies in which the audience is invited to participate. She uses various mediums: live performances, urban interventions, oral poetry, video art, photography and installations.
